The Emmaus Code: How Jesus Reveals Himself Through the Scriptures by David LimbaughIn the 2014 New York Times bestseller Jesus on Trial, David Limbaugh made a case for the Gospels as hard evidence of the existence of God, drawing on his own spiritual journey from skeptic to believer. Now, Limbaugh looks deeper into the Scriptures and discovers that Jesus Christs very being reveals itself in a close reading of the sacred texts. The Emmaus Code is a powerful, intimate journey toward an understanding of Christ as man, savior, and son of God.
55 Old Testament Prophecies about Jesus
There is no finer teacher on whether Jesus is to be found in the pages of the Old Testament than the teaching of our Lord Jesus himself. These are the Scriptures that testify about me. Did not Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory? Even King David predicted the resurrection of Jesus back in B. Therefore, it is not unexpected that we, too, should find Jesus present in the events and the predictions found in the Old Testament. It is only right that we should find that Jesus was both actually present in the Old Testament and accurately predicted, and that he would come first as our Savior, and then in a later second coming, would appear as the King supreme over all the earth. Such an unusual state of affairs is possible because he was, he is and he is the One to come.
This is a guest post from Dr. Walter Kaiser Jr. This is the second in a series of posts from Dr. Kaiser on the issue of Preaching Christ from the Old Testament. In the past, I have hosted a number of guest authors on the topic of Christ-centered preaching, of which Dr. Kaiser was a part. Additionally, these posts were compiled into a helpful e-book which can be found here.
An Introduction to Christ in the Old Testament (Selected Scriptures)
We all wish we could have been one of the two disciples who walked with the resurrected Christ on the road to Emmaus in Luke We know that beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself—but what exactly did he say to them? I particularly found his discussion on seeing Christ in Proverbs helpful as that is often a seemingly difficult task and not something most other books address. No surprise then that Jesus Christ exactly fit that profile. This is a finely written and engaging book with useful examples at the end of each chapter. On the back cover of this book the question is asked: What does the Old Testament have to do with Jesus Christ? Answer: Everything.
From beginning to end, the Bible reveals the glory of Jesus. Some are tempted to force the Bible's many pieces together, making superficial jumps from the Hebrew Scriptures to Jesus' story. But most are left wondering:. Does Jesus and his story connect to the Old Testament? If so, where is Jesus in the Old Testament? How does the Old Testament inform our understanding of Jesus—his life and teachings, death and resurrection? Here are seven ways.
Here's a brief explanation why. John MacArthur routinely preaches a sermon more than once on the same date, during different worship services at Grace Community Church. Normally, for a given sermon title, our website features the audio and video that were recorded during the same worship service. Very occasionally, though, we will post the audio from one service and the video from another. Such was the case for the sermon titled "Losing Your Life to Save it," the transcript of which follows below. The transcript is of the audio version.
