Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch (Villains)

Poor Unfortunate Soul: A Tale of the Sea Witch

Author Serena Valentino has taken the world by storm with her best-selling Disney Villains novels published by Disney Press. Do NOT read ahead if you have not read Books 1, 2 and 3. Poor Unfortunate Soul — the third book in the Valentino Villains series — gives Ursula her very own voice with which to tell her very own story. The tale of the cheeky sea witch, maker of deals, and uncrowned queen of the Unprotected Waters challenges the reader to think about what he or she values and how those values might manifest. In many respects the lessons in this book go against the grain of traditional fairytales, advocating instead for being true to oneself and embracing what others might perceive as imperfections. Ursula is most comfortable in her octopus-like skin rather than her human Vanessa form or any other form bestowed upon her by others.

Sign up for our newsletters! Everyone knows the tale of the little mermaid thanks to Disney, but not many care to consider the other side of the story. What of Ursula, the supposed villain, the evil sea witch? Disney has always had to dampen down the original oral fairy tales for kids to experience them visually. Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast are great examples of this.

Poor Unfortunate Soul is the climax of a trilogy and while the Evil Queen, Beast and Ursula are unrelated, the common connection is a family of witches who have involved themselves in each of their lives. Not much about it is expanded here, although you do get some backstory that is absent from the film., We use cookies to give you the best possible experience.
